Sonya has extensive experience representing both employers and employees on a wide range of labor and employment matters. Sonya counsels employers about their employment policies and agreements. She also advises clients on California, federal, and other state employment matters, including wage and hour issues, disability issues, employee complaints of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, and terminations.
Sonya has handled cases in federal and state court, and in arbitration, involving claims of wage and hour violations, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and breach of contract. She has successfully defeated class certification multiple times in complex wage and hour litigation, which included overtime, meal and rest break, minimum wage, off-the-clock, and wage statement claims.
Sonya has also prepared responses to EEOC and DFEH administrative charges, and has represented employers in wage disputes involving the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement.
Prior to joining Sauer & Wagner, Sonya was previously employed by an international law firm and has over 8 years of employment law experience.
